Westin Maui plans July 4 celebration

The Westin Maui Resort & Spa, Kaanapali will hold its 16th annual Fourth of July Celebration from July 1 to 6, with cultural experiences, live entertainment and family activities. The main celebration will be July 4 at the resort at 2365 Kaanapali Parkway. Activities begin at 10 a.m. with airbrush tattoos, face painting, caricature drawings and balloon twisting. Schatz introduces AI labeling bill

U.S. Sen. Brian Schatz of Hawaii has introduced bipartisan legislation that would require clear labels and disclosures on digital content generated by artificial intelligence. According to the senator’s office, the AI Labeling Act would require visible and machine-readable disclosures identifying AI-generated image, video and audio content. It would also require AI developers and major social media platforms to work together to help users identify the authenticity of shared content. AG offers amnesty for delinquent charities

The Hawaii Department of the Attorney General is offering a 60-day amnesty period for charitable organizations that are delinquent under the state’s charitable solicitation law. The amnesty period runs from July 1 through Aug. 31. Eligible organizations may correct overdue filings, pay required registration or filing fees and complete other outstanding compliance requirements. Organizations that meet the requirements by the deadline may receive a waiver of applicable late fees and penalties. Injured hiker airlifted from Haleakala

A 27-year-old woman was airlifted from Haleakala National Park on June 26 after hurting her ankle while hiking, according to the Maui County Fire Department. Firefighters were called at 4:12 p.m. to a report of an injured hiker at the Paliku campsite within the park. Air 1 was used to lift the hiker from the area of the Paliku cabins and transport her to a landing zone at Hosmer Grove, where she was turned over to emergency medical personnel for further evaluation, the department said. Engine 13 and Rescue 10 aboard Air 1 responded to the incident, which concluded at 6:20 p.m.
