Gratitude expressed for help back on property
I live on Kaniau Road, and we were the first section allowed back on our properties.
As heart-wrenching as it was, I just wanted to thank everyone who tried to make it a little less awful.
It felt very organized from when I picked up our vehicle passes at Lahaina Civic Center to driving up Kaniau that first morning.
Debbie and I really wanted to thank Darryl Oliveira, Maui’s new MEMA interim administrator.
He truly listened to us about the reentry experience, and we sincerely appreciate his coming out of retirement to help Maui.
We also wanted to thank Dr. Pang and the rest of the MEMA and Department of Health workers at the civic center.
A special mahalo goes to Samaritan’s Purse volunteers (Dave, Mike, June, Debbie, Bob, and others) who sifted through the ashes with us hoping for trinkets.
Lastly, we owe a thank you to the good folks at the AC Marriott in Wailea. When we left Lahaina on the Friday after the fire to go find phone service, we were told we could return. Yet, the highway got closed again and we were stranded on the other side. The only hotel who took a waiting list was the AC Marriott. They called and we got in for that night and ended up staying for six nights. They were all wonderful there.
We wish everyone godspeed as they visit their homes and businesses.
