Lunas claim 5th place in D-I state girls basketball tourney
Ledjan Pahukoa poured in 18 points as the Lahainaluna High School girls basketball team claimed fifth place in the Heide & Cook/HHSAA Division I state tournament Friday with a 58-56 victory over Waiakea at the Stan Sheriff Center in Honolulu.
Pahukoa also had four steals, four rebounds and two assists for the Maui Interscholastic League champion Lunas (15-2). Kate-Lynn Colipano added 12 points, four assists and five rebounds, and Tavina Harris chipped in eight points, eight rebounds, two blocks and an assist.
The Warriors (15-6) got 20 points from Pua’ena Herrington and 16 from Jolie Mantz.
In Hilo, Lanai bowed out of the Division II state tournament after falling to Sacred Hearts 59-51 in a fifth-place semifinal Friday.
Keala Montgomery posted a double-double with 15 points and 17 rebounds to lead the MIL champion Pine Lasses (10-2). She also had two blocks.
Veniza Jackson also scored 15 in addition to six boards, and Souina Seiuli finished with 10 rebounds for Lanai.
Kalysamarie Ng led the Lancers (12-4) with a game-high 21 points.
