Transformation School of Ministries will be offering a self-discovery course, “Know Thyself,” from Oct. 6-8, according to an announcement from Faith in Jesus Church. Classes will be held from 6:30 to 9:30 p.m. Oct. 6-7 and from 8:30 a.m. to noon Oct. 8 at Faith in Jesus Church, located at 432 Waiehu Beach Road in Wailuku. Trinity to host special service with new vicar

The Rev. John Hau‘oli Tomoso will celebrate Holy Eucharist as Trinity Episcopal Church by the Sea’s new vicar, the church announced. The service starts at 9 a.m. Sunday and is open to all. Worship is held in the outdoor sanctuary within the remnant walls of David Malo’s historical 1850s church. The first Sunday of each month is traditionally Hawaiian Sunday, and Tomoso follows in Malo’s footsteps as a Native Hawaiian priest, according to the church. Obon service only at Rinzai Zen Mission

For the health and safety of members and the public, Rinzai Zen Mission at 120 Alawai Road in Paia will host an obon service only at noon Saturday, the mission has announced. Obon dance and other festivities may return next year. Call 808-268-3785 for more information.

Kahului SDA Church to hold concert The Kahului Seventh-day Adventist Church choir will put on a concert in the church sanctuary at 7 p.m. Aug. 13. Titled “Calvary’s Love Story,” the concert will feature songs on the life, death and resurrection of Jesus. Wailuku Hongwanji cancels bon dance Due to continuing uncertainty over COVID-19, Wailuku Hongwanji has canceled its annual bon dance, which had been scheduled for Aug. 5-6. Hatsubon services will still be held as scheduled at 6 p.m. on both Aug. 5 and 6, the temple announced. Rinzai Zen Mission cancels obon dance

Rinzai Zen Mission in Paia has decided to cancel the dance portion of obon this year due to health and safety concerns of church members and the public. The church will hold obon service only at 10 a.m. Aug. 20 for church members and their families. Hopefully, obon dance and related festivities can resume next year, Rinzai Zen Mission said.
