Kapono, local artists to play in benefit concert for fire relief

Henry Kapono and other well-known local artists will perform at the Maui Arts & Cultural Center in September to benefit Maui wildfire relief efforts, the MACC announced.
Tickets went on sale Tuesday for the "We are Friends" concert, which is scheduled for 4 p.m. Sept. 23 at the A&B Amphitheater and Yokouchi Pavilion, with gates opening at 3:30 p.m. The lineup will include Jake Shimabukuro, Robert Cazimero, John Cruz, Kimie Miner, Makana, Anuhea, Brother Noland, Kalapana, Amy Hanaiali'i, Sistah Robi, Tavana, Eric Gilliom, Angela Morales of Na Leo, The Rough Riders, Ana Vee, Kala'e Parish and Kealoha, with many more to be announced.
Proceeds will benefit community members through the Hawai'i Community Foundation's Maui Strong Fund and the Henry Kapono Foundation.
The event is part of the MACC's Wildfire Benefit Concert series, as new and modified existing MACC shows focus on raising funds for the victims of the devastating fires. MACC President and CEO Art Vento said that all shows since Aug. 8 "have had a significant wildfire fundraising component," and that Kapono's concert will be the largest one so far.
"We have a massive lineup of artists who just want to help in any way possible," Vento said in a news release Monday. "We are all neighbors in Hawai'i. ... We are all friends. Our friend Henry Kapono will serve as the host for the event and link together the evening's lineup of incredible and selfless musicians."
Tickets for the benefit concert are $15.50 for general admission, with no reserved seat; $45.50 and $75.50 for reserved seats; and $150.50 for a Gold Circle/VIP package that includes a premium seat, VIP entry gate, access to the Yokouchi Pavilion bars, photo opportunity with Henry Kapono and select other guest artists, as well as a keepsake VIP laminate. All tickets come with applicable fees and are available online only at MauiArts.org.
Kapono had originally been planning to perform at the MACC on Sept. 23 in a 50th anniversary celebration of the songs of C&K; that concert will be rescheduled to a later date, and all ticketholders will be offered the option to maintain their original seats for the "We are Friends" benefit concert or request a refund.
