Letter: Fewer bike companies, not more Upcountry

Some downhill bike companies are out of control, with their customers now riding on Makawao Avenue and Kaupakalua Road. I fault the county with their serious tourist and public safety oversight for allowing this. On a related topic, I hope before all of the telephone poles are replaced again that Maui and the state of Hawaii will be a leader in combination cable conduit and bicycle paths. Letter: Dog victim of irresponsible Lahaina hit-and-run driver

Last night, around or near the Puamana area, my son’s dog was hit by a motor vehicle and subsequently died. This unfortunate incident was a motor vehicle hit-and-run. I would like everyone who drives on these highways and streets to be aware that could have been you or your loved ones. Last night, it happened to be a dog (no less traumatic nor heartbreaking). Deion Sanders is a great coach. The only thing I really didn’t like about him was his favoritism for his son. Football is a team sport and everyone is equal even the players who sit on the bench. All year long, coach Prime is always talking about his son. I am a local real estate broker and property owner. I am writing in response to the article last Thursday on homelessness, which mentioned Gov. Josh Green’s eviction moratorium as a measure aimed at preventing homelessness. In truth, this law is exacerbating the problem. How does allowing non-paying tenants to occupy the scarce existing inventory on Maui help tenants seeking housing? It doesn’t. So, MECO bad, and the county is bad because of the fires which were beyond devastating, but fireworks are okay in what is remaining of Lahaina? You can’t have it both ways. You can’t be a victim when it benefits you and then part of the potential next devastating fire because you want to show off your illegal stash?
